Whitefriars Open Shoot 12th Feb 2012
Following a treacherous Sunday morning drive up the A12 during which Graham saw 8 accidents and was stuck behind a rolling roadblock, the Noak Hill team eventually descended upon an unsuspecting Whitefriars ready for battle in their latest, much awaited open shoot.
As ever the home team made us very welcome laying on excellent food and plenty of hot drinks – much in demand bearing in mind the freezing conditions with snow and ice blanketing the course! Still, notwithstanding the arctic conditions, Paul embodied the 3D field spirit and lived up to his ‘Little trousers’ tag by donning the obligatory camo shorts... clearly it’s a macho thing that nobody else truly understands and raised more than a few eyebrows amongst the uninitiated with cries of ‘who let him out?’
As ever, what faced us was a particularly challenging course, fabulous terrain and certainly no gimmes with a lot of targets in the 35 to 45 yard range; even ‘Trousers’ had to find the white peg on the downhill lioness... I swear I felt the earth stop spinning on its axis at that momentous event although he recovered manfully to beat me by 6... ratbag!
So the final Noak Hill results sheet looks like;
Freestyle - Richard Green (Gold), Karen Howard (Gold)
Compound Unlimited – Paul Little (Gold), Martin Joy (Silver), Luke Wiseman (Gold - Junior)
Compound Limited – Graham Sowersby (Silver)
Bowhunter – Bob Edgar (Bronze)
An excellent haul – very well done all.
Highlights of the day? A marshal trotting up to our group brandishing an arrow asking if one of us was ‘not so fat Bob’ ... priceless, Graham incredulously accepting his silver medal in the Compound Limited class... definitely the cat who’d got the cream and finally, Richard showing his true deity status with a cracking recurve score better than many unlimited archers... what a hero.
So altogether a great shoot, definitely on the recommended list.
Finally a big thank you to Alice Bruce from Whitefriars for allowing us to include her fabulous photographs but more importantly for making a mean cup of hot chocolate!
Rhiannon has a ball at Rayleigh Open Portsmouth
It’s 2012 and it didn’t take long for Rhiannon Easton to get back on the road in the New Year – this time for the short journey to Rayleigh Town AC for the Junior Open Portsmouth on Saturday 7th January.
It’s a new year and a new bow for Rhiannon, leaving her trademark tiny training bow behind, she proudly wielded her new pride and joy (which is only about 18 inches bigger than she is) in competition for the first time. She thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and settled in well with her new equipment, achieving a score of 323 for the 5 dozen and finishing 1st in the Under 10 Section. In fact her score would have been high enough for 3rd place in the Under 12 Section and so well done Rhiannon.
Liberty Turkey Shoot 2011 - Amjaid (AKA) AJ

Ok where do I start? I had my first shoot last weekend at Liberty and all I can say is, it was fabulous! It was a nice shoot to get me started on. All the shots were set under 50 yards and some tricky ones like the Raccoon facing backwards. Well done Martin for getting the kill on that.
My first 3 shots I was excited, nervous and a bit shaky and then Martin told me to calm down and relax and that was it, I zoned in and just relaxed and it started coming together. I scored 706 points which I am told for my first shoot was a great score, so watch out everyone.
A BIG Thank You to Paul Little for coaching me every week and it’s sure paying off. And finally to put a cherry on top, I won the bet I had with my brother. I WON with 706 points and so just ordered my CXL Pros from Tony Weston at The Archery Company, thanks to my brother. So that said, apart from Martin and Paul, anyone else want to have a bet for our next shoot? Lol.
Thanks all, until next time.

Avalon 2011- Adrian Woods
Well there’s just under a week to go till I attend my first N.F.A.S shoot, I’m unsure what to expect. Mainly because I can never tell if Pepe and the boy’s are yanking my chain or not.
Still I’m looking forward to Sunday a lot and am busily doing last minute practice and preparation.
I will update the report once I have completed (survived) the shoot.
